UNDERSTANDING THE USER
From communicating and conducting cognitive walkthroughs with an experienced trails user I was able to find issues and inspiration that would help me design Wyoming Trails to meet the needs of trail users.
The Journey
I identified key challenges during a typical day on the trails and turned it visual. The sense of isolation, difficulties in navigating paths were pain points.
DEVELOPING THE BRAND
For the trails app brand, I used a bold palette to create a vibrant and versatile identity. The logo changes with each season and time of day to make it more relatable and visually engaging throughout the year.

Brainstorming
Using the insights I gained from understanding the user's needs and preferences I created the app’s navigation to include a Camera (guiding the user to the Nature Community), Home (featuring all Wyoming Trails), Map (showing trail routes and user location), and finally the trail goers's Health Activity and Profile.
Rough Thumbnails
This helped quickly establish the layout and flow, enabling early adjustments and ensuring intuitive navigation before refining the design.
Wireframes
These helped me focus more in depth on the user journey and essential features, ensuring the layout and flow were intuitive before adding design details.
Designing Components
The iconography has a playful, curvy look reminiscent of a winding trail. The typography feels friendly—approachable without being too cartoonish.
PRIMARY USER FLOW
Through Wyoming Trails, users can easily find their ideal trail by searching, applying multiple filters, exploring maps, and reading reviews. They can also share their own review.
HEALTH ACTIVITY
Users can also track their past and current health information, like calories burned, miles walked, and trails visited, with the option to filter by weeks or months.
NATURE COMMUNITY FLOW
The nature community within the application provides a way for users to connect with trail users in their area by allowing them to comment on, share, and take and post photos.
